Tasting note from from 13.06.2021, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

Hohen-Sülzen lies in the valley of the Eisbach, a low mountain stream that rises in the Donnersberg massif and exerts significant climatic influence on the valley. While the days in the Wonnegau can be hot, the temperature amplitudes are greater than in other districts thanks to the cool nights. The wines are characterised by their ripe fruit, fine spice and filigree acidity. The wine was fermented spontaneously and matured in single and double barrels.

Color

Bright yellow with green reflections and silver rim.

Nose

Yellow stone fruit and distinctive spicy notes outline the nose of the 2020 Hohen-Sülzen Riesling from Battenfeld-Spanier Peach, dried apricots and mirabelles fill its belly-shop, followed by dried herbs, light tobacco, bay leaf and mild spices like mace and white pepper.

Mouth

On the palate, the Hohen-Sülzen Riesling is tidy and combines ripe, juicy fruit with piquant spice and profound minerality. The aromas of the nose are mirrored in the nose before the tobacco spice enters and the aromatic course is clearly set in the direction of spice, which does not detract from the tartly decorated fruit. Peach, quince, thyme and sage combine with liquorice and laurel against a mineral background to create a drink with a distinctive character of origin.
