Information about wine

The grapes of this wine come from the Hallgarten vineyards Jungfer, Hendelberg, Würzgarten and Schönhell. After the demanding weather conditions with extremely much manual work, very healthy, highly ripe grapes without any botrytis were harvested. On the other hand, there were about 50 % less than the average of the last years. The harvest was pressed very slowly as whole grapes over six hours, fermented spontaneously, and half of it was vinified in stainless steel and the other half in wood until April 2018.

If you will. Rhine Slate from Hallgarten something like the maxi version of the Jacobus. Accordingly, it resembles him in the bouquet. However, the wine already seems to be more resting, finer and more closed in itself in the bouquet. A dense bouquet of white blossoms, herbs and a bright fruit forms the prelude here. A green and a yellow apple as well as a little green pear dominate. White flesh of vineyard peach combines with lemons and grapes. In the background there is wet stone and a little bright curry powder.


Also on the palate, one can understand very well how estate wine and local wine from similar vineyards differ. Does the Jacobus a lot of pressure, finds himself in the Rhine Slate Although the wine has a similar acidity, it seems a little more mature and overall more relaxed in a somewhat more set interplay of fruit, spice and stone. The citrusy acidity makes for considerable drinkability, especially as salty notes come into play here, adding to the great desire for the next glass. This is a Riesling that is lean and deft, with vibrant minerality and bright fruit especially on the finish.
