The 'Ganz Horn' vineyard is located in the middle of the 'Im Sonnenschein' vineyard and was virtually incorporated into it when the German wine law came into effect in 1971. The soil of the Ganz Horn parcel, however, has a completely different composition than Im Sonnenschein, which mainly consists of shell limestone. Ganz Horn dates back to the Pleistocene period and consists of slope gravel that was formed only about one million years ago. The conglomerate of red sandstone, gravel, loam and sand is the basis of this independent Großes Gewächs, which has been vinified individually under the Gewann name since 2007. The grapes were destemmed and fermented in steel after a 24-hour maceration period.
Color
Straw yellow with green reflections and silver rim, bright and clear.
Nose
The 2019 Ganz Horn im Sonnenschein Riesling Großes Gewächs from Ökonomierat Rebholz is clearly different from Im Sonnenschein thanks to its different terroir on the nose. In its youth, it is always a bit more buttoned up and therefore requires timely aeration, preferably with a half-day lead time. Then it shows itself with green-yellow aromas, initially citrus-driven, until notes of mirabelle plums and reneklodes are added. Followed by fresh herbs, verbena and lemon balm with slightly ethereal top notes and floral accents.
Mouth
On the nose, like all Rebholz wines, the Ganz Horn is always purist and clear, almost crystalline. Acid-controlled, it has good bite with a grippy feel and sparse fruit. In its youthful stage, instead of full fruit baskets, it rather offers a structural experience, mineral cool with electrifying tension and immense length. A GG for the patient.
