The Frauenberg vineyard, majestically situated on the hills of the southern Wonnegau and north of Hohen-Sülzen, is a cult site for wine lovers. It towers proudly at up to 280 metres above sea level with slopes that rise to a remarkable 40%. Fascinating details of its rich history take us back to the 13th century, when it was first known as "an frauwenhalten" and owned by a nunnery. At an altitude of 250 metres, the vineyard forms a feast for the eyes with its limestone gravel on bare limestone rock.

The vines grown on these exquisite plots are robust, withstanding the rigours of heat and cool winds. They root deep to reach the minerals and nutrients at the bottom. Each of the hand-picked and carefully selected grapes from the Frauenberg underwent spontaneous fermentation and were then aged in single and double barrels.

This young wine of eminent calibre offers a visual feast with its medium straw yellow colour. Its bouquet stretches wide, unleashing exuberant aromas of smoke and ash, crushed lime and wet pebbles, lichen and culinary herbs. Nuances of hops and apple peel resonate with hints of ginger and tobacco in the background, while a subtle fruitiness is balanced by the presence of peeled kumquats.

One sip of this magnificent wine reveals its power and dynamism, lined with an opulent acidity that provides potential for astonishingly long maturity. Its rich, juicy character shimmers through the dark mineral spice, while the bright, citrusy note offers an interesting contrast. The zesty finish lingers in the memory, along with striking highlights of its extracts, phenolic and vibrant minerality. Unrelenting in its evolution, this wine deserves plenty of space and time to unfold.

It goes perfectly with a range of gourmet dishes. Try it with a salmon carpaccio enriched with lemon oil and dill, or perhaps a spicy tuna tartare with chilli and avocado. A traditional guinea fowl served with lentils, chorizo and a smoky paprika sauce would also be a combination that highlights this wine.
