Color
Straw yellow with bright reflections.
Nose
The nose of the 2016 Frauenberg Riesling Großes Gewächs from Battenfeld-Spanier is smoky with dark aromas. Here squeaks nothing colorful, no apricot-yellow or similar. Instead, it shows itself restrained yet multifaceted and extremely matter-of-fact. Saline notes after oyster shells, cold ashtray, black cardamom and mild spices - Here nothing beats capers, but tells in a calm tone of the distant future.
Mouth
On the nose complex with a firm appearance, very self-assured and vertical. Multilayered, it spreads out its assets as if on a presentation table, chalky-karges backbone, fed by the plump-looking fruit that presents itself more through its extract than fruit sweetness, because the wine is brutally dry. This is flanked by the fine tart phenolic with its delicate bitterness. Not a wine for presence drinkers of primary fruity wines but a wine for the patient, because Frauenberge have long breath.
