Wine overview
Clos Windsbuhl reveals the secrets of its soil - an ancient sedimentary limestone from the Secondary Period, located high up near the edge of the forest and offering a late harvest climate. It is worth highlighting that the 2015 harvest took place only four weeks after the official harvest date in Turckheim!
Maturation info
The unique soil conditions, characterised by the high magnesium content, shape the character of this wine in a special way. These elements give it a specific structure with a certain "grainy" component and an acidic nuance that sometimes causes the fermentation to finish earlier.
Colour scheme
This wine presents itself in an intense and bright, slightly overcast golden yellow.
Fragrance
The Riesling Clos Windsbuhl reveals its true profile only after it has received enough oxygen. Initially, aromas of almonds, light nuts, wine yeast, subtle smoky notes and light tobacco predominate. After some time, scents of pomelo, pink grapefruit and small red apples are added. Density, depth and an expansive minerality underline the spectacular character of this wine, which already holds promising aromas.
Taste
This wine presents itself on the palate with an outstanding spiciness, very dry and incredibly precise with crystalline saltiness. Similar to the bouquet, one also finds nutty, spicy and yeasty notes here. The fruity notes, reminiscent of citrus and apple peel, remain rather in the background, but give the wine that certain something. For perfect enjoyment, it is advisable to let this Burgundy-inspired drop rest in the cellar for a few years - as a reward, a veritable firework of complexity awaits you.
Food pairings
For a change of pace, try this wine with a seasonal mushroom risotto or monkfish wrapped in fennel, accompanied by a light Riesling lemon sauce and caviar. A delicate pheasant dish served on a bed of savoy cabbage, rounded off with smoked bacon and a nutty, spicy Riesling sauce is also a perfect match.
