Wine profile
The Clos Häuserer treasure chest is a tiny, square-shaped vineyard that extends over 1.198 hectares of land. It lies on deep marl soil, rich in limestone, directly below the Grand Cru Hengst. A gentle eastward slope surrounds it. The rocky soil layer is about one to one and a half metres deep, which makes the vineyard late ripening. This is particularly remarkable as the site is actually early ripening. Clos Häuserer can therefore have a reductive flavour profile when young, which is probably due to the high lime content. The first vintage from 1975 still surprises us today with its liveliness.

The 2016 vintage shines with a precise palate structure and impressive ageing potential. The striking dryness, despite a fine residual sweetness, is the result of spontaneous fermentation.

Appearance
The eye drinks along when the wine presents itself in a radiant golden yellow.

Fragrance spectrum
The nose is caressed by the fruity notes of ripe peaches, applesauce, pears and fresh pineapple. In addition, hints of smoke, cardamom and aniseed fascinate. The charming play is intensified by the scent of broom and acacia blossom, while acquiring a seductively austere note from the intense limestone on which the wine is grown.

Taste experience
On the palate, the austere note merges with juicy fresh fruit and a well perceptible residual sweetness. A fine tannin note brings liveliness into play together with the balancing fresh acid arc. In anticipation of the fantastic storage potential, the long finish surprises with a fine tart grapefruit note.

Enjoyment recommendation
A complex wine like this deserves to be decanted for several hours. Serve it in a large glass to show it off to its best advantage. A few days after opening, it will develop its full expression.

Food recommendations
To accompany this wine, we recommend mini artichokes served with a refreshing citrus chutney, oysters combined with fruity citrus segments or a juicy fillet steak with lemon thyme butter and glazed red onions.
