Reconnaissance
The continuously rising hilly landscape in Kientzheim, which lies between 225 and 250 metres above sea level, is enthroned directly below the Grand Cru Furstentum. The soil here is characterised by limestone and sedimentary deposits, but with a characteristically high sand content. This area is mainly home to Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris, both of which have optimal conditions for Vendages Tardives and Selection de Grains Nobles due to their slower ripening process.

Colour printout
A bright golden yellow underlines its visual character.

Fragrance composition
In the olfactory test, the 2019 Altenbourg Riesling Vendages Tardives unfolds a gentle astringency and a potpourri of diverse fruit aromas. Notes of lime, grapefruit and apricot mingle with a hint of orange marmalade. Prolonged contact with air also reveals chalky hints - this is a wine that is only at the beginning of its journey and promises great things.

Taste experience
The palate treat begins with an intense sweetness that harmonises with a lively acidity. This wine is the ideal companion for desserts, but without neglecting its fresh, filigree note and moderate alcohol content of 11 Vol%. It presents itself cool and precise and its fine spiciness and compact minerality suggest an excellent ageing potential. A potential that is yet to be discovered!

Alternative food recommendations
Try this wine with mini artichokes with lemon chutney and a hint of saffron and cardamom. Second option could be caramelised rack of lamb with a hint of chilli, accompanied by a crisp salad with rocket and pear. Or how about dessert? A lemon tart with pavlova and fresh mint.
