Wine
Albert Mann, Riesling Vendange Tardive Altenbourg 2014
Color
golden yellow
Nose
The Vendange Tardive from the marly-limestone Altenbourg vineyard in Kientzheim, Alsace, is very concentrated. As it seems to be completely devoid of botrytis, it rather reminds of a mixture of Auslese with ice wine. The aroma is complex and alternates between oranges, grapefruit and kumquats, ripe pears, apricot compote and a stony, cool component. Wonderful how clear and precise the Riesling appears.
Palate
This clarity, vibrancy and mineral-salty tension continues on the palate. The depth in the sweet but zesty apricot fruit, complemented by coconut flesh and tropical fruit notes, balances perfectly with crisp acidity and pressure that the Vendange Tardive creates on the palate. There is something wonderfully cool and precise about the wine right down to the last ramification, and despite the sweetness, a great drinking pleasure and desire for more builds.
Food recommendations by Christoph Raffelt:
- Tajine of lamb with salt lemons
(meat, lamb, milk kid)
- Lukewarm apple tart with Riesling sabayon (dessert)
(dessert, cream, dessert sauces, fruit, tart, cake)
- Lime mousse with mint and white chocolate (dessert)
(dessert, chocolate, mousse)
