Info about the wine
Ried Zieregg is an incredibly multifaceted vineyard site characterised by limestone marl and coral limestone soils. Due to the multi-layered terroir, the vineyard was divided into 16 plots in order to be able to selectively cultivate them in their individuality. With the 2018 vintage, the Sauvignon grapes of the Zieregg Vinothek Reserve come from the "Weisse Wand" parcel for the first time, as the original parcel "Die Sieben Reihen" was filled separately for the 2018 parcel collection. The vines are rooted in particularly poor conditions on blue chalky marl soils. The soil conditions in combination with the 30-month ageing in neutral wooden barrels bring structure, deep minerality, complexity and lasting length. Storage potential 20 years and more.
Color
Brilliant golden yellow with clear green reflections.
Nose
The aroma of the 2018 Ried Zieregg Sauvignon Blanc Vinothek Reserve is beautiful and compact. In addition to countless wild herbs such as nettle, boxwood, sage and wild mint, we encounter distinct camphor pepper notes, ginger and juniper. To reveal its fruit, it absolutely needs the carafe, then it reveals apricot, grapefruit, blackcurrant, medlar, lemon peel, young mango to us. Already when smelling it, the intense minerality and power in the nose seem to provoke extremely pleasantly.
Palate
On the palate, it packs an immense freshness, juicy density and a beautiful phenolic, which is extremely stimulating in combination with yeasty notes and its fresh acidity. Lots of fruit on the palate in combination with a carpet of saltiness and multi-layered tannin makes it an incredibly profound wine, with an endless finish and great storage potential. If you want to enjoy it already now, it is imperative to decant it and even a day or two of opening in the fridge will make it win. A wine that will be remembered, with or without culinary accompaniment!
