And yet, the wine remains persistently elegant and penetrating, already revealing a lot, but will open up more and more over the next 15 years. The Morillon opens up with smoky notes and light tobacco, all very fine and quiet, but insistent.

Wine information

The Zieregg vineyard is Tement's local mountain, which has become world-famous thanks to the family. It is characterised by coral limestone and limestone weathering rock, which was formed in a former mighty coral reef. The vineyard lies at an altitude of 330 to 490 metres. The Morillon growing on it comes from 40-year-old vines from the oldest part of the Zieregg. The wine was fermented spontaneously to a residual sugar of 1.8 grams with 6.6 grams of acidity, then aged for 18 months on the fine lees in neutral wooden barrels and bottled unfiltered.

Nose

Tement's Morillons are special in their own right and clearly stand out from the rest of the Chardonnay world. At Zieregg this is even more concise. The Morillon opens with smoky notes and light tobacco, everything very fine and quiet, but insistent. Then the game begins with the fruit green and yellow apple, pure plums, oranges and lemons in moderation, plus nougat and with air more and more pear and a stony and herbaceous background.

Palate

On the palate, the fruit components become clear, yet always remain on the fine, finesse-rich side. Where others construct buttery Chardonnays with wood, this wine has not an ounce of fat too much, no buttery fudge, no creamy bits. Instead the Ornamental Giant Morillon Extremely juicy, and the citrus fruit along with its acidity is clearly more demanding on the palate than in the aroma. In addition, the wine becomes saltier and more mouthwatering from minute to minute, builds up more and more pressure and also shows its chalky, stony side. And yet, the wine remains sustainably elegant and penetrating, already reveals a lot, but will open up more and more over the next 15 years.
