Info

The Wielitschberg vineyard is the warmest part of the so-called Tements site triangle. Together with Zieregg and Grassnitzberg, they stand at around 410m N.N.

The site is west-facing and offers Traminer ideal conditions due to its warm conditions, thus providing the basis for structure and varietal typicity. The soil is weathered coral limestone, which can be found on huge reefs. Barren limestone marl as well as cool clay soils also form part of the site.

Like most of Tement's wines, it is given plenty of rest.

After spontaneous fermentation, it matured for 22 months on the fine lees in neutral oak barrels and in steel tanks.

Nose

Of course, the Wielitschberg also smells loudly from the glass as Gewürztraminer. But besides the obligatory nuances of a little rose, lychee and orchid, it has much more to offer. Coriander and eucalyptus flow over the rim of the glass. It has earthy nuances of forest floor and tree bark. Blackberry bushes, and thus especially leaves and branches, provide an ethereal and woody spiciness at the same time. Grapefruit and bergamot complement it in a refreshing way. A hint of coffee rounds it off in an enormously unusual but all the more harmonious way.

Palate

On the nose, it bundles pure finesse and lets the kitsch of its grape variety fall away completely in a striking sense. Characterised by a concise acidity, it presents itself straightforward and taut. Nothing seems oily or clumsy. Full of coolness and freshness, it shimmies along the aromas of the nose. The finish is almost salty and edgy. In the aftertaste, clear floral accents as well as fennel and aniseed come to the fore. The aromas of bergamot and grapefruit also clearly dominate the picture.
