Tasting note from from 29.09.2022, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

The Loiserberg is one of Fred Loimer's six Kamptaler vineyards. The vineyards extend up to 380 m above sea level and are well ventilated with good temperature amplitudes from day to night. The Loiserberg's loess layer increases towards the southeast, otherwise the site is characterised by predominantly lime-free rocky brown earth and siliceous crystalline rocks such as paragneiss, mica schist and amphibolite, which often change within the site in a confined space.

The 2020 Ried Loiserberg was selectively harvested by hand in 20 kg crates and then subjected to a maceration period of several hours. Partially pressed with whole bunches, the must fermented spontaneously with its own yeasts in steel tanks before being left on the full lees for 4 months and then on the fine lees for a further 4 months.

Color

Bright straw yellow, radiant and clear.

Nose

Yellow stone fruit, herbal decoction, floral top notes and a little chamomile outline the nose of Fred Loimer's 2020 Ried Loiserberg Riesling. Nectarines, the skin of ripe peaches as well as yellow, crumbly apples fill its fruit basket, alongside a bunch of fresh kitchen herbs such as borage, chervil and parsley. Vital, fresh nose with a clear character.

Mouth

Polished and taut on the nose, this impression continues through the broadly curved acidic arc to the cool mineral finish. Structured by acidity and phenolic, it is firmly wrought, the fine tannin seems like the finest powder on the palate. With a creamy melt, the fruit follows the overall structure of the wine and combines in the finish with the piquant spice and delicately salty finish. A wine that clearly benefits from the carafe, in its youthful stage gladly the day before.
