Remirez de Ganuza

Regardless of their stylistic classification, the wines of Remirez de Ganuza are wonderful to drink. They live from an inner calm, combine power and elegance. The mixture of chalky minerality and dark fruit concentration also convinces us time and again. Tempranillo is the language, occasionally complemented with a little Graciano.

An absolute speciality is the perfectionist thought of Fernando Remirez de Ganuzo. He uses only the shoulders of the grapes from the Reserva quality level onwards. The tips of the grapes go into a young wine, which he markets mainly locally. The shoulders of the grapes deliver more fruit concentration and the higher potential for elegant, persistent wines.

Increasingly, they also devote themselves to white wine production. From Viura and Malvasia, they produce powerful white wines with roasted aromas. But the wines live from a fabulous saltiness and get along very well with the wood. Wines in the style of a great (opulent) white Burgundy, only in the Rioja version.

It is extremely difficult to Bodegas Remirez de Ganuza in their style.
In Rioja, there are traditionalists who rely on long maturation in wooden barrels, seek an oxidative touch as well as the classic appellations of Reserva and Gran Reserva use. And there are the modern wineries that coined the Super Riojana and set very concentrated, lush wines with the most modern cellar technology.
Remirez de Ganuza hovers between these two worlds.

Rioja in perfection

On the one hand, the winery relies on old traditions and allows the wines a lot of time and rest during the ageing process in wooden barrels. On the other hand, they work with such meticulousness and perfection, meticulously selecting only the best berries and using only new wood in the barrels. The wines appear dark and intense, but the slow ageing gives them the necessary calm and balance.

Fincas de Ganuza always present their wines after five years of cellar maturity. In fast-moving times, this is a highly creditable concept. The Reserva shows Tempranillo from its spicy side. Fleshy in the mouth with roasted aromas in a silky robe. The single vineyard Viña Coqueta is often underestimated and considered a little insider tip.

In the world of Gran Reserva, we are talking about wines that find their way to customers almost ten years after their harvest. Great wines full of elegance. Balanced, long-lasting and complex in fruit and mouthfeel. 2005 and 2010 are considered world class.

Transnocho

The Trasnocho comes pretty close to a "Super Riojana". It is a real powerhouse, but retains the cool minerality of a Remirez de Ganuza. The grapes are pressed slowly and gently overnight for this. The aim is to prevent the berries from bursting and to preserve the full fruit in this slow process.
