The magic of this wine comes from the unique landscape around Siebeldingen, where geological eclecticism provides a stage for diverse soil conditions. The palette ranges from ancient formations such as Rotliegend, Buntsandstein or Muschelkalk, hidden deep within the earth, to more recent soils such as slope gravel or loess. The Chardonnay vines here benefit from the unique combination of loess and shell limestone.

The fine dust of loess, which accumulated in the depressions during the last ice age, turns ochre yellow and gives the vine a chalky nourishment. The grapes were carefully harvested by hand, destemmed, crushed and lovingly juiced after a few hours of maceration. Their essence found rest and maturation in predominantly new French and Palatinate oak barriques before being bottled in July after a 9-month stay.

In the glass, reflections of light yellow, similar to the hue of lemons, appear. What distinguishes this Chardonnay and makes it a true institution among German Chardonnays is its bouquet. The aromas dance into the interior of the nose - citrus in the form of lemons and kumquats are flanked by the sweetness of pineapple and pear. A hint of gentle smoke and wood notes indicate its noble maturation, rounded off by hints of lime and yeast.

The tasting confirms these sensations. The citrusy, bold aroma blends with a subtle toasty note, while the characteristic tannin awakens the palate and supports the wine's creamy body. Under the tongue, a tingling acidity feels refreshing, although the wine retains its crisp texture. A seductive finish consisting of overwhelming saline notes and a hint of caramel evokes memories of Breton crème caramel au beurre salé, but in an unobtrusive, refined way.

To complement the multitude of flavours, I recommend enjoying this Chardonnay with dishes such as a creamed chicken, roasted pike perch on a bed of herb polenta or a risotto with pumpkin and porcini mushrooms.
