Wine information

The Les Quarts vineyard is undoubtedly one of the best terroirs in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation. The fantastically situated vineyard faces south-east and has 48 to 80-year-old Chardonnay vines on siliceous and above all ferruginous clay and limestone soil from the Bajocium. The wines produced there are long-lived, well-balanced. Hand-harvested from 11 to 14 September 2019, whole bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation, followed by ageing for 17 months, initially in pièces for eleven months and then in barrels with 100 % malolactic fermentation. The added sulphur is 40 mg/l.

Nose

The 2017 Les Quarts is a southern Burgundy that oscillates between floral, stony and yellow ripe aromas. Citrus fruits are particularly present here with ripe lemons, oranges and grapefruits combining with white peach and blanched almonds, crushed lime and a little dry wood. Already in the fragrance the wine seems very balanced, full and precise at the same time.

Palate

On the palate, the wine is powerful, ripe and juicy with a lavish abundance of fruit that always remains clear, precise and impressively punchy. It is quite astonishing that a Chardonnay from the Mâconnais, which has undergone a malolactic fermentation, brings so much pressure and grip to the palate. The wine is lively and has an invigorating, even tonic effect. It is yellow-fleshed with a little wood, nuts and a fine saltiness.
