Wine information

The Bret brothers own 0.54 hectares in the Climat Les Longeays in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation. The fantastically situated vineyard lies directly next to Les Quarts in a south-southeast orientation and has 37-year-old Chardonnay vines on partly ferruginous clay and limestone soil from the Bajocium . These are long-lived, well-balanced wines that are produced there. Hand-harvested on 26 August 2017, whole bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation, then ageing for 17 months, initially in pièces for eleven months and then in barrels with 100 % malolactic fermentation. The added sulfur is 40 to 65 mg/l depending on the barrel.

Nose

The 2017 Les Longeays shows ripe and mature notes of lemons, lemon peel and limequats, pears and quinces with a little lanolin and lanolin. This is rounded off with freshly grated nutmeg, oatmeal and a little white pepper.

Palate

On the palate, the Chardonnay combines a fine nuttiness with the ripe fruit. Here, the wine appears much brighter, fresher and clearer than on the nose. It shows itself with a fleshy body and a grippy texture that incorporates the punchy and precise acidity. In fact, the fruit-driven wine of the early years has become a great textured wine, whose fine tannin lingers on the palate just as long as the salty note in the finish.
