Wine information
This wine comes from two hectares at an altitude of 230 metres in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation from 37 to 55-year-old Chardonnay vines on clay and limestone soils from the Bajocium. Hand-harvested on 12 September 2019, whole bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation, followed by ageing for 17 months at 80 % in barrels and at 20 % in pièces of 228 litres with 100 % malolactic fermentation. The added sulphur is 50 mg/l.
Color
medium straw yellow
Nose
The 2019 Pouilly-Vinzelles seems restrained at first and is clearly less lavish with its aromas than its counterpart from Saint-Véran. But with time, clear and fine notes of yellow and green apples and pears, plums and mirabelles, citrus fruits and a hint of nutmeg and white pepper are found.
Palate
On the palate, this is an immensely piquant and peppery wine whose spiciness harmonizes perfectly with the silky ripe yellow fruit. This local wine from Pouilly-Vinzelles has enough power. However, the precision and also the powerful freshness behind it are always astonishing. It is undoubtedly a charming Chardonnay, which at the same time really turns up the heat and scores with its citrusy, tart and salty notes.
