Wine information

The Bret brothers cultivate a parcel of only 0.69 hectares in the Climat "En Chatenay" in Puilly-Fuissé. It is located at an altitude of 250 meters and faces northeast. Located below the Roche de Vergisson, it is characterized by reddish-brown clay on limestone. The vines are 55 years old. Harvesting was done by hand on September 20, 2019. This was followed by whole cluster pressing and then spontaneous fermentation. The Chardonnay was then aged for 17 months, first in used barrels and then in neutral cuves after the blend. A 100 % malolactic fermentation took place. The wine was only lightly sulphured before bottling. The total sulphur is 20 mg/l. The wine has a pH value of 3.19.

Color

medium straw yellow

Nose

The 2019he En Chatenay is an aromatically bright Chardonnay that oscillates between crushed stone, salt lemons, mussel shells and green stone fruit including shells. With air and warmth one thinks to feel a little of a just ripened pineapple and in addition also of a few freshly peeled hazelnuts.

Palate

On the palate, the Chardonnay shows its bright, powerful and extremely lively side. One would not expect the wines from the Mâcon to be so fresh and clear, and yet this is how they have developed here. Aromatically, the Pouilly-Fuissé oscillates between yellow and green citrus notes and pome fruit, some peel, the chalky and iodine of oyster shells and between salt and lemongrass.
