Wine information
The Bret brothers source the fruit from 0.4 hectares here from Climat En Carementrant in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. This is the second wine after 2019, following a four-year break during which the supplier of the grapes changed. The vineyard is in its final year of conversion to organic farming. It is located below the Roche de Vergisson at an altitude of 280 m in a pure southern exposure. The vines are 50 to 60 year old Chardonnay vines on very clayey and calcareous soil from the Bajocium . Hand-harvested on 29 August 2020, whole cluster pressing and spontaneous fermentation, followed by ageing for 17 months in used cuves and barrels with 100 % malolactic fermentation. The added sulphur is 50 mg/l depending on the barrel, the pH is 3.2. It was neither fined nor filtered.
Color
medium straw yellow to light golden yellow
Nose
The 2020s En Carementrant is a Chardonnay with a bright and creamy character. Already on the nose, one senses the fineness of the texture due to the long yeast ageing and also thinks of lemon curd, lemon zest and freshly sliced lemons, some green pineapple and elderflower. In addition, there is some verbena and crushed stone.
Palate
The palate shows the vivacity of the vintage with a citrusy fresh and slightly punchy acidity, citrusy flavours, some white pepper and salt. The Chardonnay gradually increases the pressure and seems creamy - as already announced in the aroma. One hardly feels the wood used at all. Instead, there is a bed of crushed lime and chalk, almonds and salt lemons.
