Wine information
The Bret brothers own 0.49 hectares in Climat Au Vignerais in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. The vineyard is located on the southern slope of the Roche de Solutré at an altitude of almost 300 m and has 35-year-old Chardonnay vines on ferruginous clay and limestone soil from the Bajocium . Hand-harvested on 29 August 2020, whole bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation followed by ageing for 17 months in seven to 18 year old barrels with 100 % malolactic fermentation. The added sulphur is 35 mg/l depending on the barrel.

Nose
The Au Vignerais Cuvée Zen seamlessly joins the fresh, clear and bright aromatics of the 2020 vintage at La Soufrandière. Lemon zest and freshly cut lemons as well as limequats, some anise and pencil, stone and oyster shells can be found here as well as a silky note of pear cream and some yeast hidden in the background.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is extremely juicy and elegant. Here comes a wine that 1er Cru The Chardonnay brings an additional dimension of depth and body into play. The Chardonnay is full of tension and pressure with its lively acidity, but at the same time enormously creamy, silky, palatable in its ripe fruit and then again stony and cool, slightly electrifying and salty. The low sulphur content makes the wine appear open, slightly yeasty and extract-sweet, which, together with the saltiness, has a vehement effect on the drinking flow.
