Wine information
The Bret brothers own 0.5 hectares in Climat Au Vignerais in the Pouilly-Fuisé appellation. The vineyard is located on the southern slope of the Roche de Solutré at an altitude of almost 300 m and has 35-year-old Chardonnay vines on ferruginous clay and limestone soil from the Bajocium . Hand-harvested on 16 September 2019, whole cluster pressing and spontaneous fermentation, then ageing for 17 months in seven to 18 year old barrels with 100 % malolactic fermentation. The added sulphur is 45 mg/l depending on the barrel.
Color
medium straw yellow to golden yellow
Nose
The 2019 Au Vignerais unfolds notes of lemon peel and freshly cut lemons, a little aniseed pastry and green mango including peel. Over it aromas of white flowers, a little crushed limestone and dry wood.
Palate
On the palate, this is an elegant wine full of fresh ripe and deliciously creamy, even creamy pear and peach notes. The Chardonnay envelops the whole palate, gliding silkily over the tongue and combining the creamy fruit with a little tobacco, with nuts and a hint of wood. The longer the wine stays on the palate, the saltier and also punchier it becomes. As if out of nowhere, alongside this saltiness and also a lively minerality emerges at some point in the background to linger, and does so into the long, juicy finish. If this is not a Cru quality!
