Wine information

Pommard is located between Beaune and Volnay, where the Côte de Beaune makes a slight bend towards Autun. These lands used to belong to the Dukes of Burgundy and the Abbey of Cîteaux. The appellation, one of the first to obtain AOC status in 1936, produces only red wines from Pinot noir.

The »Pommard Village" comes from four different parcels. The smallest parcel is on the Croix Planet vineyard, and it produces lush and full-bodied wines. Other plots in the Vaumuriens and Vignots vineyards are planted with old vines, which give the final blend finesse and structure. In addition, there are plots in the La Vache vineyard, a climat in the center of the appellation, which provide minerality. In total, fruit from about one hectare is used. The vines date from 1947, 1983, 1988 and 1999 and stand at altitudes between 270 and 362 metres on clayey limestone subsoil. After hand harvest, partial destemming and spontaneous fermentation, the wine was aged for twelve to 15 months in Pièces and Tonneaux expanded. The share of new wood was only 5 %.

Nose

On the nose, the "»Pommard Village 2018" is impressively sensual and inviting. Dark fruit notes combine perfectly with finest wood, vanilla and cinnamon, some smoke and leather, undergrowth and slightly dry moss. A fine spice accompanies the dark fruit, everything seems balanced and harmonious.

Palate

On the palate, the "»Pommard" is downright creamy and velvety in texture. Tannin and wood create a successful structure, the acidity is lively and present. Again, the balance and sensuality of this wine are impressive, with ripe dark and cherry fruit meeting notes of mint. The mineral vibrant framework is evident on the finish, and the wine remains exciting and energetic to the end. It shows a very slight intended and downright romantic note of a goût de campagne. This is self-contained, coherent and very successful.
