Wine information

The Planetes de Nin comes from the east-facing vineyard Finca les Planetes, directly opposite the village of Porrera. Carles Ortiz planted Garnacha Negra and Cariñena there years ago and partly also took over old stocks, which also include Garnacha Peluda, so that the vines are between ten and more than 80 years old. They stand on different formations of Llicorella schist, some harder, others more weathered. They hold varying amounts of iron, silica and black clay. About 40 % whole clusters and 60 % destemmed but uncrushed grapes were used, fermented for 15 days in 3,000-liter oak barrels with their natural yeasts. They were then pressed off and the maceration was completed without skins. Finally, the wine was aged in a 3,000-liter oak barrel for 20 months.

Nose

The 2018 Planetes de Nin appears dark, complex and fresh at the same time. Some yeasty notes as well as the clear fruit show the youth of this wine. But what opens up behind it is already very remarkable; because this is a Priorat wine with a particularly fine impression. The already mentioned freshness becomes more and more concise with Nin-Ortiz from year to year. The partial fermentation with the raisins clearly helps. The notes of cherries including cherry stones with their distinctive bitter substances, which are so typical for the wine, are just as present as clearly darker notes of blood or iron, ink and black tea, dark chocolate, black rock, juniper and sloe.

Mouth

Also on the palate the Planetes de Nin The wine is dominated by freshness and the dark aromas of the ferruginous Llicorella soils. One hardly notices that the wine has a typical amount of power for the Priorat, because the precision of the freshness is in the foreground. But this is of course not completely unimportant for the overall impression - especially since one can already clearly recognize the Priorat here. What is particularly exciting is the almost playful lightness of the aromas between cherry and garrigue, between ripe fruit and the pithiness of ripe raisins. This is framed by a tannin of fine to medium grain, which gives the Planetes de Nin accompanied until the long finale. Here is already very much exactly in the place where it belongs. A few years of bottle ageing should perfect this.
