Color
In dark purple with garnet red rim, the wine shows clear and shiny from the glass.
Nose
With a pronounced earthiness and subtle leatheriness, this amphora wine of Nero d'Avola and Frappato has the fruit locked away for now and demands some air and patience, as well as a big glass. Plums and dates, as well as figs and Amarena cherries, only emerge in close association with gingerbread spice, tobacco leaf and almond speculoos, as well as the distinct aromas of black tea.
Palate
From the first sip, the 2016 Pithos Rosso from COS balances aromatic splendor, subtlety and fullness on the one hand, but on the other hand, a lean, defined body, vibrant acidity and juicy nonchalance. Puristic red fruitiness paired with grounded spice and straightforward honesty makes this wine a precisely successful self-portrait.
