Info about the situation

The monopollage of 1 ha is located near the Grand Cru Hengst, it is the only Clos in Alsace planted with 100% Pinot Noir. It is divided into three sections. The upper part consists of rosy Vosges sandstone, red sandstone and calcareous sandstone. In the middle, there is grey shell limestone with a very fine grain and yellow Jura rock, and in the lower part, a mixture of Vosges sandstone and white and pink quartz. The vines were planted between 1998 and 2002. The yields here are only 35 hl/ha.

Expansion

The grapes were transformed into wine more on the principle of infusion than extraction. Fermentation was spontaneous in tank with 15 % whole clusters, then 17 months in barrique . Malolactic acid reduction in spring, no fining.

Color

Muted violet red with purple reflections.

Nose

The 2020 Pinot Noir Clos de la Faille is an extremely juicy and seductive Pinot Noir, still young and impetuous at this stage. Lots of sour cherry, dark berries, accompanied by the usual density and minerality from the house of Mann, rose petals, violets, a hint of liquorice and countless fresh herbs from sage to rosemary, elder wood and tarragon.

Palate

On the palate, it appears juicy, full of fruit and fine fruit sweetness, without any residual sweetness. The acidity is invigorating, Burgundian and refreshing, the tannin velvety and polished. Delicately salty and mineral is the trace it leaves on the palate. An enchanting wine that is still youthful at the moment and will mature into a great and seductive Pinot Noir with further maturity.

If you want to enjoy it in its youthful stage, you should pour it slightly chilled from the decanter into Burgundy glasses.
