Color
The deep amber hue of the 2005 Pinot Gris Rotenberg Sélection de Grains Nobles already gives you an idea of what a force it is on the nose.

Nose
The olfactory experience of this wine is captivating with its impressive depth and sweetness. Reminiscent of dried apricots, apples ripe for harvest and pear compote melded with the aroma of liquid honey. The nose also detects notes of sweet dry pastry, beeswax and brioche, which add that certain something to this sensual journey through the garden.

Palate
The sweetness of this wine overwhelms the palate with its intensity and is never unpleasant. The extremely concentrated sweetness is accompanied by a stimulating acidity and deep, mineral components that ensure a long finish. No wonder this noble sweet drop can stand on its own as a dessert. However, it would not deter it from meeting spicy dishes or desserts either.

Vineyard
The conditions in the Rotenberg vineyard, are similar to those of the Heimbourg. Despite a lower yield in 2005, this vintage produced an exceptionally rich Trockenbeerenauslese. The red, ferruginous limestone soil of the Rotenberg, coupled with a late ripening date, allowed for an excellent acid balance. This wine tastes so rich and full that it could almost pass for a Trie Speziale. The fermentation process took place in a small 600 litre barrel, leaving almost 300g of residual sugar. Dominated by white-fleshed fruits such as pear, ripe apples, peach and apricot, the wine appears very full-bodied. At the same time, the acidity keeps the powerful sweetness in check and promises a balanced and delicate drinking sensation. With its intense honey and brioche aromas as well as its complex acid structure and length, this wine has all the prerequisites to develop its full beauty in a good cellar.

Food recommendations
Wild boar terrine with apricot chutney; blue cheese accompanied with apple slices caramelised in honey; pecan tartelette with pinot gris sabayone.
