Wine information
Hidden behind the Grand Cru Hengst and with a view of the picturesque Munster Valley and the Vosges, lies the sought-after Rotenberg vineyard. This is mainly occupied by Pinot varieties, which follow a late ripening cycle due to the iron-rich limestone soil and thus produce rather low yields. Historically, the Rotenberg has been famous for producing sweet and velvety wines. But more recently, this vineyard has also offered complex and dry Pinot Gris wines, due to the natural concentration of the grapes.

Information on wine production
The special nature of the Rotenberg site allows for the production of an exquisite Pinot Gris. The small size of the grapes, the sparing yields and the slow ripening process have made it possible to achieve serious structure, balance and high extract in the wine. The grapes of the 2018 vintage were healthy and were able to ferment completely despite an unusually low pH for this wine. To ensure quality, we let them age on full lees for 18 months, like all dry Pinot Gris, before bottling.

Colour scheme
A strong, nuanced golden yellow appears in the glass.

Scent
The 2018 Pinot Gris Rotenberg reveals an exciting interplay of aromas: smoky and malty notes meet fresh aromas of orange, orange peel and ginger. Underpinnings of vineyard peach, plums, mango, quince and sweet chestnut lend the bouquet a charming sweetness.

Taste
On the palate, the wine unfolds spicy and refreshing, its youthful vitality is clearly noticeable. This wine is still full of development potential and is excellently suited to accompany classic French dishes.
