Color
The wine presents itself in bright, intense straw yellow with golden reflections clear and shiny in the glass.
Nose
Fruit-laden and aromatic, yet hidden behind a dry wall of primary rock, the wine shows a harmonious interplay of ripe fruit that reveals itself gradually and requires some patience. Opening in time pays off.
Yellow pear, quince and apricot compote are present as are more exotic aromas of pineapple and dried mango. Acacia flowers enrich with fragrance while notes of white chocolate, straw and cereals fill with depth.
Palate
The 2016 Pinot Gris Roche Calcaire from Domaine Zind Humbrecht is full-bodied and rich without being ponderous, because it is as meager as it is powerful. The tension that builds up from creaminess, substance and acidity in the compact body of the wine reflects par excellence both the grape with its origin, as well as the vintage through the handwriting of the Domaine.
Food recommendations from Peter Müller
- Yellow beetroot gratin with marinated Chinese cabbage and flaxseed crumbs
- Fried tuna belly with grilled artichoke bottoms and tomato jam
- Turkey roulade with rocket and pointed peppers on almond polenta
