Color

The wine shows itself in a brilliant golden yellow clear and shiny in the glass.

Nose

Fruit-laden and bright, beguiling floral scents spread exponentially in the glass. Dried apricots, yellow pear and honeydew melon as well as a hint of lychee lemonade with orange zest provide sheer exotic aromas These are underpinned by floral notes such as apple blossom, acacia and hay flowers. The spiciness of white pepper and salt stone is an exciting contrast.

To fully appreciate its true fragrance, the wine should be opened one day before drinking.

Palate

Powerful, but above all melting, with a soft viscosity, the 2016 Pinot Gris from the Grand Cru site Hengst of Jacky and Antoine Barthelmé of the Domaine Albert Mann shows itself. The vitality of the acidity resulting from the vintage gives the wine's broad-shoulderedness and extract sweetness the necessary balance and inner tension.

On the one hand, this is classic, timeless Alsace at its best, and on the other hand, further proof that fine wine can be made from this grape variety, which in many places is considered clumsy.

Food recommendations from Peter Müller

  • Roasted Jerusalem artichoke with walnut-cumin cream cheese and cress
  • Chicken leg roulades with cauliflower, truffle and chicory
  • Roasted rabbit liver with sour lentils, potato noodles and lamb's lettuce
