Nose
The 2017 Altenbourg Pinot Gris seems already in the fragrance so cuddly and inviting that you do not want to escape it. Ripe mellow, but also crisp yellow apples, oranges, cinnamon, honey, dates and exotic sweet curry notes are in the foreground. At the same time, tart notes, ginger and a little phenolic indicate that this is not just about turning your head with lush ripeness.
Palate
This Pinot Gris is impressively silky and envelops the palate, but at the same time it remains surprisingly bright, tart and fresh. Although the acidity is naturally soft and restrained, it is still present and an essential component of the juicy character of this Alsatian Pinot Gris.
Food recommendations by Christoph Raffelt
- Lightly fried abalone with ginger, garlic and lemongrass
- Quail with rose petal harissa and celery salad
- Green Thai curry with aubergines and courgettes
