Wine information
The grapes of the 2020s Pies Negros come from Ábalos in the Sierra Cantabria. This is therefore a local wine made from 85 % Tempranillo and 15 % Graciano. Arturo and Kike de Miguel Blanco destemmed but did not crush the grapes, then fermented them with indigenous yeasts and aged them for twelve months to 90 % in used 500-litre oak barrels and 10 % in cement.

Nose
The 2020s Pies Negros smells powerful, expressive and at the same time already elegant with a very clear expression of Rioja Tempranillo. The wine reminds of liquorice, plums, blackberries and blueberries, some cinnamon and clove with a cool mineral vein.
Palate
On the palate, this cool impression continues in the juicy dark fruit. Here, too, one finds dark berries and plums, some pepper and clove, but also stone and a lively acidity, something electrifyingly fresh and young in combination with a pleasant saltiness. The Pies Negros combines all this with a fine, elegant and yet grippy tannin. The slightly opulent dark fruit and the fine texture show at the front, the slightly grippy tannin in the mid-palate and all the liveliness and tonicity in the finish. This is already very good and still has a lot of potential.
