Wine information

The name Oestricher Klosterberg derives from its affiliation with the former Cistercian convent of Gottesthal. The soil is characterised by calcareous loess with terrace sediments, clay marl and quartz pebbles. The vineyard is situated at 160 metres with a slope of about 15 to 20 % and is exposed to the south-southwest. After manual harvesting, gentle whole bunch pressing over several hours and spontaneous fermentation, the Riesling was aged for 16 months on the full lees in traditional double barrels.

Color

intense straw yellow

Nose

The Klosterberg is a clear, elegant and ripe Riesling which, due to the location and the terroir, appears somewhat warmer than, for example, the Hendelberg. It smells of a little smoke and crushed flint, of elderberry, apple cider and lemons including zest, as well as a little iodine and petrichor.

Palate

On the palate, this is an energetic, vital and juicy wine with light tannin and a lively clear yet also silky acidity. The Riesling appears balanced and elegant with a deep tonic minerality and a long noble finish in which the fruit and fine rock spice combine with a hint of wood smoke.

Food recommendations by Christoph Raffelt

  • Sole with porcini mushroom and leek ragout
  • Loup de mer with saffron-shellfish-cucumber ragout
  • Dim Sum with egg and truffle
