Wine information

The Pinot noir comes from the 9.41 hectare Premier Cru site Ile de Vergelesses in Pernand-Vergelesses. The site is framed by Savigny's Les Vergelesses as well as Pernand's Les Vergelesses. The quality of the terroir is higher than that of all other Premier Cru sites in the village and is actually at Grand Cru level. The terroir of Pernand-Vergelesses, similar to that at Corton Hill, is characterized by siliceous and calcareous red marl that has a high iron content. The domaine has 13.31 hectares of average 40-year-old vines, some of them even 80-year-old vines, facing east.

Nose

The Pinot noir from the core site Ile de Vergelesses balances between warm fruit notes and earthy elements. One thinks one can smell undergrowth, earth and perhaps a little truffle. If you step out of the forest into the open, you will find strawberries, blackberries and a few currants. A little further away is an elder tree with ripe fruit. In addition, the cherries are ripe and reveal themselves in the form of a cherry tart with a dark base and chocolate.

Mouth

It is then these cherries that fill the mouth with juice. The fruit is intense and warm, the tannin is flattering and coats the tongue. All this is interspersed with a fine, increasingly clear acidity that sneaks in through the back door, as it were, and then becomes present. With air and time, all of this adds up to a coherent, intense experience. The wine is still young, but already very open, inviting and becomes deeper and more complex with air.
