Info
The Gewürztraminer comes from a vineyard 350 metres above Wachenheim with primary rock soils. The grapes were harvested quite early, pressed as whole clusters, fermented very slowly and largely aged in neutral wood.
Color
Slightly cloudy light golden yellow with copper reflections
Nose
From the first contact with this wine, one immediately has the typical aroma of the Gewürztraminer in the nose. It smells of rose petals, nutmeg, a little bit of lychee and grapefruit. In addition, there are aniseed, yeast, apple with its peel and a light citrus note. The wine seems complex, but by no means heavy, but rather fragrant and expressive in the best sense.
Palate
On the palate, the Pfälzer Landwein shows body, a sensual silky acidity and lots of aroma. The grape variety tends to produce a lot of sugar, which is why it stands cool in the vineyard and is harvested early. Nevertheless, Gewürztraminer always develops power and alcohol, which here is 13.5 %. However, the wine largely breathes this away. The focus here is on the complex fruit, which takes on the aromas of the bouquet, but seems boosted on the palate with even more rose, nutmeg and lychee, peach and apple, melon, pineapple and hops. The silky dense wine has mineral freshness, seems dry in mouthfeel and texture, but offers some sweetness via the alcohol and extract. The finish is opulent yet always clear and precise, long and complex. An impressive monolith.
