Tasting note from from 23.08.2021, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

The grapes for the Spätburgunder Bassgeige Erste Lage are grown on loess and basalt. The wines are always fruity with fine spicy notes. Spontaneously fermented, the wine was aged to 100% in barriques with a share of 10-20% new wood.

Color

Ruby red, transparent, bright and clear.

Nose

The cherry on the nose is subtly underpinned by other aromas that extend from the tart spectrum to the core note. Rosehip, cranberries as well as elderberry and cassis leaves give it a vegetal-herbal twist, again accompanied by blackberries and wild cherries. Mild spices such as cloves and allspice as well as discreetly smoky notes outline the dark fruit, while the skilful use of wood creates a fitting framework for this still life.

Mouth

Extract-rich and powerful, the rich fruit is also firmly framed by youthfully tart tannin on the palate. Pulsating like a sub-bass, the clear cherry comes in cycles again and again, while the ripe acidity accelerates the bass fiddle to optimal speed. With a proper grip on the palate, you feel you can literally chew the wine. Above it all, the brilliant fruit always shines in sparkling ruby.
