The bass fiddle is an ideal introduction to the world of Kaiserstühler Cardonnay.
According to Friedrich Keller, it is becoming more and more important in the winery, which is why he is working single-mindedly to bring the variety ever closer to the region and to give it its own voice. The Chardonnay in the Bassgeige produces wines with stable acidity and allows flexible harvest times. With the exception of one 2000l barrel, the grapes were all fermented spontaneously in barriques with a proportion of 20% new wood.
Color
Strong yellow with bright reflections, radiant and clear.
Nose
The nose is outlined by zeitgeisty reduction reminiscent of primers. With a little aeration, enormously disciplined pome fruit and stone fruit notes emerge. Only the skin of the apple and the stone of the peach is reduced to the essential. Underpinned by salty mineral notes of wet chalk and discreet wood spice, it promises a pithy, reduced Chardonnay pleasure.
Mouth
The nose keeps its promise Straightforward and stringent, the 2019 Oberbergener Bassgeige Chardonnay Erste Lage from Fritz Keller combines its reduced fruit with a saline structure and transparent freshness. The fruit notes remain in the background and subordinate themselves to the structure of the wine. With a fine extract and a wide-stretched acid arc, it shines with a saline character and fine-grained grip on the palate.
