Info about the wine
The hand-picked grapes for this Chardonnay come from the Freudshofer vineyard, an extremely chalky top site in Jois am Leithagebirge, which is virtually made for Chardonnay due to its favourable sun exposure.
Color
Deep golden yellow with silvery reflections.
Nose
Rich in finesse and striking, the 2018 Freudshofer Leithaberg Chardonnay greets us freshly poured from the glass. Stony notes and the discreet use of wood make the start, then aromas of yellow apple, woody pear, oranges and orange zest join in. With sufficient oxygen, its multi-layered aroma is complemented by ginger, pepper and some juniper.
Palate
On the palate, the 2018 Freudshofer Leithaberg Chardonnay is gentle and presents itself with a fine melt, in which the stimulating acidity is wonderfully embedded. Fine nutty and buttery notes testify to the skilful use of wood. Limey hints linger in the long finish and excellently underpin its filigree and at the same time strikingly mineral character.
Be sure not to serve it too chilled in a larger glass!
