Information

From Porrera, it takes a good half hour by jeep before you've made the daring journey up to Mas d'en Caçador. The vineyard is completely isolated on the border of Porrera and Gratallops. At an altitude of around 650 metres, it is one of the highest sites in Priorat, from where you can enjoy views over the entire area. The 80 to 110 year old low Garnatxa, Garnatxa Pelluda and Cariñena vines are planted on pure Llicorella iron slate terraces, farmed with mules. The hand-harvested wine is fermented spontaneously and ages in large barrels. This absolutely exceptional vineyard of three hectares was taken over by Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz in 2004.

Nose

Already in the fragrance, and indeed from the first second, it becomes apparent what a profound and deeply mineral wine this is. The ripe dark fruit of black cherries and blackberries is initially found in the foreground, but it does not really remain in the foreground. More prominent are the scents of dry rock, underbrush, laurel, essential oils and balsamic notes. At the same time, the wine manages to be profound and delicate at the same time.

Mouth

It is a juicy and fresh start that this cuvée from ancient vines delivers. At first, the wine appears red berry, before it becomes darker and darker with air. Besides all the dark fruit, there are also notes of dry wood, charcoal, violets and dark soy sauce. The sweetness of the fruit is in exact balance with the acidity, the tannin seems like a fine haze that surrounds everything, and the minerality that these ancient vines draw from the Llicorella soil is of overwhelming depth. The wine, which is still very young, should - if it is to be drunk now - be opened or decanted over hours or days before.
