Out of stock

The Coma d'en Romeu opens with the scent of rose hips and ripe elderberries, blackberries and cassis, sweet and sour cherries, plums and blueberries as well as a potpourri of herbs, flowers and spices. It is one of the very great Priorat wines, and this is evident from the very first moment, when the expressiveness and density combined with freshness and clarity become obvious.

Wine information

Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz were able to take over the south and southeast facing Coma d'en Romeu vineyard a few years ago. The slate here is lighter than in the other cru, the Mas d'En Caçador, but older - about 450 million years. Moreover, the Garnatxa Negra vines, which are about 70 years old, stand as bush vines on the slope and not on terraces at an altitude of about 325 meters. Harvested on Sept. 18, 2018, the 1.5 hectares of Garnacha was chilled to below zero degrees for two days before being destemmed, kicked and crushed with feet in an open wooden fermenter. It was then fermented spontaneously and aged in used 225, 300 and 600 barrels. 1,340 bottles were produced.

Nose

Anyone who has ever had this wine in a large glass will want to explore and experience it again and again. It is one of the great Priorat wines, and this is already evident in the first moment, when the expressiveness and density with simultaneous freshness and clarity becomes obvious. The Coma d'en Romeu opens with the scent of rose hips and ripe elderberries, blackberries and cassis, sweet and sour cherries, plums and blueberries as well as with a potpourri of herbs, blossoms and spices. A little lavender pops up here, thyme there, sage here, a little violet there - and beyond that, the dark of oily slate, sloe, black tea and a little pepper. You can fathom this wine for days and it changes again and again and you don't get tired - rather the opposite.

Mouth

On the palate, the Garnaxta from the single vineyard is perfect in its balance of Mediterranean spice, dark fruit, cool, almost chalky rock and the silky sensual creaminess. The tannin seems like powder, and the alcohol this year is clearly lower than previous years. You can feel that, even though it is always excellently integrated. The freshness increases once again as a result and the minerality becomes more apparent even in the early stages of this wine. Thus dances the Coma d'en Romeu almost, although he remains powerful and concentrated. A dancing giant, a still very young but beguilingly beautiful Priorat Grand Cru
