Tasting note from dated 20.10.2020, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

The Nikolaihof is the oldest winery in Austria, with a history dating back to 63 AD. After secularization at the end of the 19th century, the farm passed into the possession of the Saahs family, and in 2005 Nikolaus Saahs took over the management. Since 1971 the Nikolaihof has been working according to biodynamic principles, which resulted in Demeter certification. Since then they have been using nettle liquid manure, valerian drops, horsetail tea and specially prepared preparations instead of herbicides, pesticides or fungicides. Grown on loess-loamy Danube gravel, the 2019 Vom Stein Federspiel matured for half a year in large, old wooden barrels before it was bottled in April 2020.

Bright straw yellow, bright and clear.

The 2019 Riesling Federspiel vom Stein from Nikolaihof balances spicy notes with bright clear fruit pome fruits like yellow apples and red pears are complemented by hazelnuts, mace and delicate yeasty notes. The nose announces a grape variety typical, profound Riesling pleasure with a clear character of origin,

In the nose creamy much juice and power with delicate melting and good thrust in the nose. Expansive and generous it flows over the palate, far away from all youthful and primary fruity refreshers of this world. Instead, it indulges in its usual calmness and composure that literally forbids you from fanning it out into its component parts. Glass full - great!
