The Vinothek filling is a Riesling Smaragd in the Weingebirge, which was stored for a particularly long time in 3,500-litre oak barrels before being bottled after 15 years.

Nose

As so often with wines from the Nikolaihof, the nose is reserved. At first, one senses a slight tug of maggi herb, but this quickly dissipates. In addition to a background noise of young apricot and chamomile, the deep herbaceous and stony spiciness is the hallmark of these Wachau wines.

Palate

If you're expecting an explosion on the palate with this not-so-cheap aged wine, move on quickly. This Riesling is different. It burns itself quietly and therefore all the more lasting into the brain of the wine drinker. It does so with a delicacy and simultaneous phenolic-spicy depth that could briefly make your features slip. The acid backbone is so firmly wrought, as if the Vinothek had several years of Kieser training under its belt. The acidity flows like a river around yellow fruit and river stones. The Riesling is juicy, bright and brings more and more stone, salt and spice as if it has inexhaustible potential. With air, the 16-year-old Riesling reveals great depth but never becomes unfathomable. The Riesling remains transparent and clear, becoming more velvety by the hour while vibrating with joie de vivre. Where other Rieslings have long since given up, this 2000 is just beginning its second life.
