Out of stock

Golden yellow - The 2013 Klause am Berg is a wonderfully ripe, juicy, spicy and fully fruity Riesling, reminiscent of lots of ripe stone fruit, soft apricots and oranges, a little spice from ginger, saffron and grapefruit zest, a little stone and pepper. The Riesling seems elegant, concentrated and yet relaxed.

Information

The Riesling comes from a site named after an old hermitage and can be found on the northern bank of the Danube high above Stein an der Donau in a terraced location. The vineyard is characterized by hard primary rock soil with a light humus layer. The wine has 5.7 grams of acidity with 5.5 grams of residual sugar. It was aged for four years in large barrels and then matured in the bottle.

Nose

The 2013 hermitage is a wonderfully ripe, juicy, spicy and full-fruited Riesling, which reminds of lots of ripe stone fruit, soft apricots and oranges, a little spice from ginger, saffron and grapefruit residues, a little stone and pepper. The Riesling seems elegant, concentrated and yet relaxed.

Palate

On the palate, this ripe, rich yellow fruit is also found, but it recedes more into the background and offers the stage to the spiciness, the stoniness and a vibrating minerality. A noticeable amount of extract combines with pome fruit and citrus peel, a subtle sweetness and juiciness from ripe pome fruit and, again, slightly spicy bitter notes from the ginger. This comes across as spicy and intense. The acidity forms the backbone here. It does not jump out, rather stays in the background, but is always present and provides a background tension. The finish is long, lively and marked by a fine saltiness.
