Wine information
The Negre de Negres, i.e. a Noir de Noirs, is a cuvée of Garnacha tinta, Cariñena and Syrah, all of which grow in the Clos del Portal Somni vineyard. Grenache dominates at 60 %, Syrah and Cariñena are picked extra early to bring freshness and acidity to the wine. The vines are 20 to 60 years old and are planted on Llicorella soils at an altitude of 260 to 370 metres. The grapes were harvested between the second week of September and the first week of October. The wine was then aged in large French wood.

Nose
For Alfredo Arribas, this wine is an estate wine that forms the link between tradition and modernity in Priorat. If you hold your nose in the glass, you can directly understand this claim and imagine yourself on a plateau flooded with light in this barren landscape, where the vines are standing with their plump grapes shortly before the harvest. Grenache, Syrah and Cariñena each contribute their mite to the fact that from the Negre de Negres becomes an expressive, wonderfully dense and juicy wine. It opens with dark notes of elderberries and plums, cordials and blackberries, mingling with distinctive notes of thyme and juniper, allspice, dark tobacco, licorice and smoke. The Syrah brings in something meaty as well as a hint of violets, and the Somni Vineyard with its Llicorella slate adds a cool mineral dimension.
Mouth
Drinking pleasure and demand, classic, woody Priorat brought in harmony with cool and fresh components - that is the Negre de Negres. The opulent fruit is juicy, ripe and warm and combines with a little oak and smoke, liquorice and cedar and is at the same time permeated by vibrant minerality and fresh acidity. Arribas knows exactly which Syrah and Cariñena he wants to extract from his vineyards at an early stage. Somni Vineyard The wine can be made to taste as ripe and juicy as this one, and at the same time there is enough grip and pressure on the palate so that this wine does not make you tired, but on the contrary sharpens the senses and provides precision.
