In the guise of a Belgian cherry Witbier, aromas of cranberry, rosehip and sea buckthorn are revealed, as well as sour cherry, of course. At the same time, ethereal notes of eucalyptus, bergamot and honeybush tea rears its head.

Color

The wine shows itself in bright garnet red with a slightly translucent rim and discreet yeast cloudiness shining in the glass.

Nose

Loud, but with a clear and gentle voice, this Burgenland interpretation of a Pinot Noir speaks out. In the guise of a Belgian cherry Witbier, aromas of cranberry, rosehip and sea buckthorn, as well as sour cherry, of course, reveal themselves. At the same time, ethereal notes of eucalyptus, bergamot, and honeybush tea rears its head. In constant change, this independent character head demands attention and time.

Palate

What comes across as a little rough in its fragrance, in a positive sense, is delicate and extremely fruity on the palate. Projecting an entire juice bar into the glass, the 2018 Nacht from Meinklang is nevertheless consistently dry. A racy acidity and its steely, straightforward body combine to shift the drinkability clutch up a gear. This applies to all those who are not inspired by smoothly ironed, personality-sampled corporate wines, but are enriched by open-hearted independence.

Food recommendations from Peter Müller

  • Smoked sheep's cheese on tomato jam with olive herb and sunflower seeds
  • Confit eel with rosemary butter, braised leek and parsley root
  • Bacon dumplings au gratin with pecorino cheese and wild herb salad
