Manfred Tement's family loves to constantly challenge themselves and their region and to learn new things.

Time is a factor in the course of winemaking, which fortunately has particularly taken a liking to the Tements. Thus, the connoisseur has the pleasant result that even the estate wines, like this Morillon from shell limestone sites, are stored on the fine yeast for more than 18 months before they leave the winery and we impatient wine drinkers are let loose on them.

Thanks for that.

Color

The wine shows itself in bright lemon yellow with silvery reflexes clear and shining in the glass.

Nose

A multi-layered first nose representing Morillon on the one hand and Styria on the other hand at full throat invites to a friendly sparring match in the ring. Fragrant flowers like lily of the valley float above yellow, mealy apples, honeydew melon and quince as well as the herbal spice of coriander green and freshly broken ginger. Depth sets in after some time with notes of hay, nutmeg pumpkin and the earthiness of fresh forest leaves. In addition, a blob of liquorice shows up in a gossamer frame of cotton candy.

Invitingly strong character.

Palate

In the first sip, the 2018 Morillon Muschelkalk from Armin Tement and family politely but firmly takes its place. It is creamy, rich and melting, and the yellow fleshiness of its fruit flavors increases in ripeness. Driven by that yellow fruity juiciness, stimulating crisp acidity and sparse steely minerality, precision is the motto of this stimulating drink. It is due to its stony aftertaste and this invigorating acidity that this wine is able to step off the scales as a lightweight and shine as a soloist as well as a food companion.

Food recommendations from Peter Müller

  • Grilled watermelon, basil and chicory with olive oil foam and green pepper
  • Marinated brook trout with asparagus salad, peas and horseradish cream
  • Roasted chicken leg fillets with orange butter, leaf spinach and caper risotto
