Wine information

The Domaine Romanesca property in the Château Gaillard site in Morgon covers 0.8 hectares. The site is located in the north-east of the appellation on pink granite with shallow depth. The vines of the Gamay Noir à Jus Blancas it is called in full, are around 40 years old and yield 30 hl/ha. This site is still in conversion to certified organic farming, and this wine is being vinified for the first time. After handpicking and sorting, whole grapes were used. Undamaged berries were placed at the bottom of the concrete cuve, and crushed berries were placed on top, so that the Gamay could be left to macerate for around 15 days. Macération semi-carbonique could pass through. The wine was then aged for around eleven months in the concrete cuve.

Color

quite dense garnet red

Nose

The first time filled Château Gaillard is a comparatively dark and dense Beaujolais, whose aromatic attack is dominated by liquorice, dry wood and some warm forest floor, cinnamon and vanilla, as well as ripe sweet cherries and dark berries.

Palate

On the palate, this is a flatterer, a charmer with silky tannins and an equally silky but lively acidity, with lots of dark, sweet-looking fruit and a pleasant cool mineral vein. This is a powerful, almost mighty MorgonBut it is excellently balanced. It appears fleshy and muscular, but also elegant. The finish reveals salty and peppery notes as well as smoky ones, which join the juicy fruit.
