Shading
The 2014 Morei shows a deep purple with purple highlights that lightens towards the rim and has a black core.
Bouquet
Once the wine has matured after two days of opening, it makes an overwhelming presence with its juicy sour cherry, hints of marzipan and wild Mediterranean herbs, coupled with seductive hints of lilac and elderberry. Despite its freshness and the dominance of the fruit, it brings a mineral depth and an exciting framework.
Pallet
The tension continues on the palate, where it boasts an almost cool-seeming minerality and refreshing fruit and acidity. Its tannins are polished and fine-grained, its acidity is refreshing and seems almost a little wild, almost youthful, with an extremely moderate alcohol content of 12.5 vol%. At the moment it is still a diamond in the rough, which will emerge more harmoniously with a few years of ageing. A few days of opening will only do it good.
Recommendation
If you can't wait to taste it, you should definitely decant it and serve it in a generously sized glass.
As an alternative to the dishes suggested by Christina Hilker, the following dishes also go very well: goulash with a creamy polenta-spelt crust, crispy flatbread with prosciutto, tomatoes and rocket or a tender pink roasted duck breast with balsamic glacé and cherry parfait.
