Overview

With a rich purple colour that shines with violet hues and lightens towards the rim, the blackness of this wine stands out at its core.

In the nose

A juicy bouquet of ripe sour cherries unfolds in the 2014 Morei, especially after the two-day opening period, when this drop reveals its youthful freshness. The dominant aroma of cherry fruit is accompanied by beguiling notes of lilac and elderberry, as well as hints of marzipan and wild Mediterranean herbs, which alone inspire the senses. Despite its focus on freshness and fruit, the wine presents itself with a mineral depth and fascinating structure.

On the palate

In the mouth, the fascinating structure of the 2014 Morei continues and reveals itself through a mineral, almost cool freshness paired with an invigorating fruitiness and acidity. Its polished, fine-grained tannins and refreshing, almost provocatively youthful acidity with a moderate alcohol content of 12.5 vol% distinguish the character of this wine. With a few days of opening, it even gains depth. At the moment, it presents itself as a rough diamond that will develop even more harmony with a few years of storage.

Recommendations

For immediate enjoyment, this wine should be carefully decanted and served in a sufficiently large wine glass.

Alternatives for food recommendations could be a pumpkin risotto with roasted scallop, a spicy tarte flambée with prosciutto, sun-ripened tomatoes and rocket, or a caramelised duck breast with pomegranate reduction and tarte tatin.
