Wine information
Monthélie is a commune bordered by Auxey-Duresses to the west, Meursault to the southwest and Volnay to the east. There are 94.77 hectares of Village and 37.53 hectares of Premier Cru vineyards. The Premier Cru vineyard »Les Vignes-Rondes«, which covers only 2.72 hectares, is shared by Rémi Jobard and Domaine Pascal Prunier-Bonheur. It belongs to the plateau in the east of the estate.
Rémi Jobard fermented the wine spontaneously with 80 % whole grapes. Like his Chardonnays, his Pinots mature in Stockinger barrels and tonneaux.

Nose
The 2019 Monthélie Les Vignes-Rondes 1er Cru The nose already shows the clear difference to the terroir of Volnay, which is archetypal in Jobard's Volnay Les Santenots finds. The Monthélie is a spicier and somewhat darker fruited wine with notes of black cherries, sour cherries and plums, over which lies a note of violets, thyme and heather. There is also some smoke and a very elegantly used wood with a hint of vanilla.
Palate
On the palate the Monthélie juicy, but above all firm and grippy with an immensely sensual fruit of sweet cherries and a few sour cherries. The sweetness of the cherries in particular is very inviting as a counterpoint to the distinctive but ripe tannin and the fresh acidity that the premier cru owns. Jobards Monthélie is always a Pinot Noir full of energy and inner tension, firmness and a juvenile austerity which, however, dissolves more and more with time.
